Competitions at OIBS

At Oakland International British School, we believe in nurturing the whole child, intellectually, socially, and emotionally. One of the key ways we achieve this is through our vibrant and inclusive competition culture.
Our students actively participate in a variety of competitions throughout the academic year. These include:
> Spelling Bee Contests – designed to build vocabulary, boost confidence, and improve public speaking.
> Mathematics Competitions – aimed at encouraging critical thinking and analytical problem-solving skills.
> Inter-House Sports Competitions – fostering teamwork, physical fitness, and healthy rivalry among our four school houses.
> Inter-House Academic Contests – promoting knowledge-sharing and subject mastery in a collaborative yet competitive setting.

We proudly operate a House Point System that rewards students for effort, teamwork, leadership, academic excellence, and positive behavior. These points accumulate towards house victories, inspiring friendly competition and school spirit.
In addition to our termly awards, weekly certificates are presented during our assemblies. These include:
> Academic Excellence Certificates
> Behavioral and Character Awards

This recognition system ensures that every child feels seen, valued, and encouraged to keep growing.
At OIBS, we do not view competition as a measure of defeat or victory, but as a powerful learning experience. We instill in our learners the mindset that they never fail, they only learn and grow through every stage of the journey.
Competitions at Oakland are not just about winning; they are about building confidence, developing resilience, and celebrating each child’s unique strengths.
